Silver Jewelry
Pure silver is too soft for jewelry making. It is necessary
to add in other metal alloys for strength and durability.
When the percentage of pure silver present is 92.5, then the
piece is said to be sterling silver. More often than not,
a piece of sterling silver jewelry will
be marked with "925" for easy identifying.
Sterling silver is well-liked by
both manufacturers and consumers alike for its affordabilty
and durablity. But one major downside of silver jewelry is,
unlike gold, platinum, and titanium, silver will tarnish and
dull over time no matter where you store it and how you store
it. The tarnish process is a natural oxygenation for silver.
The best thing to do is to prepare some silver tarnish remove
products ready at hand. Many commercial products are available
for this purpose.
