Sterling Silver Jewelry
Silver is also too soft in its pure form for jewelry purposes,
so it is necessary to add in other metal alloys for strength
and durability. When the percentage of pure silver present is
92.5, then the piece is said to be sterling
silver. More often than not, a piece of sterling silver
jewelry will be marked with "925" for easy identifying.
One major downside of silver jewelry is, unlike gold, platinum,
and titanium, silver will tarnish and dull over time no matter
where you store it. Frequent cleaning is hightly recommended
to maintain silver’s true beauty. The best maintenance
is to remove your silver jewelry when swimming in salt water
or swimming pools, also remove your jewelry prior to bathing.
Wipe your jewelry carefully with a soft cloth to keep it clean
and free of these elements which oxidizes. There is a variety
of tarnish removal products on the market.
